Sean McLeod & Jerami Kipp perform at Broadway's Symphony Space, special guests of Tina Thompson Dance Theatre

Sean McLeod, American Choreographer and President & CEO of NYIDE, and Jerami Kipp, professional dancer and African Hand Drummer, performed at NYC's Symphony Space on June 21, 2008 as special guests of the Tina Thompson Dance Theatre (TTDT).

Professional concerts for the Tina Thompson Dance Theatre happen once annually, and have also shown at NYC venues such as the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre Joan Weill Center for Dance. This year's professional dance concert took place at the inspiring Symphony Space, in their 30th anniversary year. Click here to see the 30th anniversary highlight film. This year's title for the concert was "Skin," highlighting such TTDT works as Tornado, Wire, Thru, Robe, and The Lioness Chant.

McLeod and Kipp gave command performances, highlighted among other world class dancers such as Terace E. Jones. "Cherchant Ma Voix" musically explores African Drumming, classical, modern gospel, hip hop, and club genres, and seamlessly merges these influences into a captivating piece intended to give validity to "hip hop" as a professional dance genre. McLeod solidly infused this intention into the choreography, and has created an ongoing tour de force for professional hip hop & modern dance works.

The piece can be seen again at the New York Dance Festival's World Class Concert Series. Specific events in which to see this work will be the International Stage Dance Concert and De Lavallade Awards, and A Day In Dance. Check the World CLass Concert Series Performance schedule for more information.
